We have an expression in the US – “the wrong side of the tracks”. It refers to a part of town that’s on the less desirable side of the railroad tracks. Over time, it’s come to refer to any part of a town or city that has low incomes and property values and higher crime rates. I grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. I didn’t have the opportunities my peers from the “right” side of the tracks had.
What I love about Toastmasters is that it doesn’t matter where you’re from or how smart you are. What matters is what you can do. All we promise you is an opportunity. I’m running for International Director because I want the opportunity to:

  • give back to the organization that has given me so much.
  • continue my leadership journey because I still have room to grow.
  • improve transparency in our organization to members.
  • ensure that the board’s focus is on the member.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be reaching out to leaders and members around the world to learn more about the issues you face and discuss how we can make your jobs easier. Feel free to send me a message or question via my Contact page.
